Abstract

There is no doubt about the importance of Jean-Baptiste Pierre Antoine de Monet, Chevalier de La Marck (1744-1829) to the history of biology. His influence on evolutionary thought is widely recognized, although his ideas are often oversimplified and misinterpreted. Given this scenario, the present article aims to deconstruct certain aspects of teaching practice that tend to distort or simplify Lamarck's evolutionary theory. Guidelines will be provided for teaching Lamarckism, and likewise, elements often overlooked but crucial for understanding Lamarckian evolutionary thought will be highlighted. The objective is to provide teachers with a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of the ideas of this significant French naturalist.
